If you go down to the woods today......
This half term, it is Class 1's turn to visit forest school. In the sessions we have had so far, we have had such fun! We have looked closely at autumn leaves (to link with our topic work), we have made many different crafts and we have had a great time playing outside!
We have been working really hard during our maths lessons in class. The Reception children, as well as learning all about numbers, have been working on measuring. They have learnt how to order items by size and then to measure height and length using multi-link cubes.
Our Topic Work:
We have spent the last two weeks learning about the changes that we see during autumn. We have learnt about why leaves change colour and fall off the trees and have spent some time sorting and identifying different leaves. We have made crafts with the leaves and completed foil rubbings to look closely at the structure of leaves.
We completed a data handling activity where we had to choose the right coloured blocks to represent who lives in our home with us. We discussed how some people have big families, some have small, some live with lots of people and some few- all families and homes are special.
We have been looking at how we have similar facial features but how we all look different- even identical twins have some differences. We decided to have a go at making our faces using food and selecting different shaped fruits/vegetables to represent different parts of our faces.
They tasted yummy too!
We also used an app on the IPads to try to disguise our facial features so that no one would know who we were! We thought that the app was very funny and spent a long time choosing which 'selfie' would be the best! The whole class were very good at working out their friends' faces even though the photos were quite tricky!
