    Autumn 1 2025

Welcome back to school for those pupils in Year 1 and welcome to the new pupils that are joining us this year in Reception!

Our topic for this half term is 'The Seaside' where we will be learning about seaside holidays in the past as well as about the plants and animals that live there.

Please follow the links below to our half term letter and topic plan:

    • We loved reading the story of 'Barry the Fish with Fingers'. We looked at how the characters in the story were feeling and compared this to other stories by the same author. We really enjoyed role playing the story with our friends.
    • We learnt all about lighthouses and how them keep boats safe around the coastline. We read the story of the 'Lighthouse Keeper's lunch' and had a go at getting the picnic to the lighthouse without the naughty birds stealing it! We also made our own lighthouses!
    • We are really enjoying our PE lessons with our sports coaches Liam and Callum. We have been learning football skills.

    •

    • In our history lessons, we learnt about seaside holidays in the past. We looked at how people in the past spent their time at the seaside. We played at dressing up in a bathing machine, taking a steam train to the seaside, riding donkeys on the beach and painting a scene to have our picture taken with.

    • DT day:

    • On 17th October we had a whole day to explore design and technology. We learnt about the difference between fruit and vegetables and read the story of 'Pumpkin soup'. We learnt how to chop up vegetables by practising using playdough first. We then chopped up some pumpkin and cooked it to our recipe, with the help of Debbie the school cook. After it was blitzed, we couldn't wait to try it! It was delicious! Thanks to all of the helpers who made this work possible :)

    • We very much enjoyed our 'Art Day' all about Vincent van Gogh. We looked at some of his art work from his darker pieces of work at the start of his career to his most famous pieces. We used 'The Starry Night' as inspriation for our own piece of work. We decided whether we would like to do day or night then whether we wanted to land or sea.
