Spring 2025

Welcome back to school after the half term break. Our new topic for this half term is... Amazing animals!

Please follow the link below to our half term topic plan and letter to parents/carers:

We have enjoyed learning the 'Traditional Tale' of 'The Three Little Pigs' in class. We have acted out the story, retold it and even written it down. We have very much enjoyed reading the alternative story called 'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig!'.

We have been finding out where animals live around the world. We have sorted animals by their type, what they eat and where in the world they live.

We have learnt about animals that live in the Amazon rainforest and looked at mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians that live there. We then learnt about some of the strange mammals in Australia that lay eggs! We read a book about the amazing Steve Irwin who dedicated his life to caring for animals and made a gorgeous duck-billed platypus from a paper bag!

We LOVE our PE lessons with the sports coaches! This half term we are doing gymnastics and have had so much fun using the wall bars!

We had a visit from Jon the Potter on Tuesday (18th March) who told us all about clay. We had a go at flattening, cutting, decorating and painting our own fish. It was a lot of fun!

We have been reading the story of 'Where the Wild Things Are' and have loved acting it out with our friends! We especially loved roaring our terribly roars! The Year 1 children used their story maps to help their Reception friends to act out the story.

We had a very exciting visit from Eco Animal Encounters! We met some lovely creatures:

Trevor the Bull Frog , Bella the Blue Tongued Skink, Curly the Tarantula, Bobbi the Bull Python and a gorgeous scorpion (sorry I can’t remember the name!).

The children were able to touch and hold most of these creatures. We were taught about where they are from, what they eat and their behaviour.

Please check back to see what we have been learning!

Spring 1 2025

Welcome back to school after the Christmas holidays and happy new year to you all! We are very excited about our learning for this half term. Our topic is 'Pirates!'.

Please follow the links below to our half term topic plan and letter:

We have started off our learning by looking at maps of the world. We have found the hot and cold places, the seven continents and the five oceans. We thought about how dangerous it was to be a sailor in the past as journeys on a ship were hard work and VERY long. We had a go at some of the jobs that sailors had to do such as: cleaning the ship, mending the rotten wood, mending the sails, looking out for land/pirates and cooking.

In our games lessons with our sports coaches, we have been learning hockey skills. It is a bit tricky but lots of fun!

We learnt about how sailors and pirates used directions, the stars, a compass and maps. We made our own treasure maps thinking about what we might find on an island. Can you spot where our treasure is buried?

We've had a great time learning how to use Beebots to travel around a treasure map. We had to give them careful directions to make sure that they went to the right place.

The children in reception have been practising their repeated patterns using lots of different resources.
