Week 2

Week beginning 20th September 2021

Monday

We listened to the story of Daniel and the Lions from the old testament. Daniel had the courage to break the rules of the king and pray to God. God protected him from the lions after being thrown in the den. The king had worried about him all night and couldn't sleep and was pleased to see him safe in the morning. Daniel believed in God and he was protected. This story shows that we should have the courage to stand up for what we believe in and that God will guide us.

Tuesday 21st September

We have listened to the life of Martin Luther King today and how he had the courage to stand up for black people to be treated the same as white people. In the 1960s black people were treated very differently and had to attend different schools, parks, public toilets, cinemas and even travel on different buses. Martin Luther King gave a speech about how he wanted to change this and that black people should be treated equally. He had the courage to speak out for what he believed. His speech went down in history and inspired millions of people around the world and brought about the civil rights act of 1964 which ended the segregation of black and white people. Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1964 for campaigning but was shot dead months after. We then brought this back to our school vision 'For With God Nothing is impossible'  Luke 1:37.

Wednesday 22nd September

Class 2 Worship

Class 2 held a discussion about Martin Luther King and thought about ways in which to help others or the world. They came up with:

Holding a litter pick to help the environment

Raising money to help charities who campaign against animal cruelty

Collecting items for Afghan child refugees

We will make a decision soon about which area to focus on.

Thursday 23rd September

We listened to the story of The Selfish Crocodile by Fausten Charles and Michael Terry. The crocodile frightened the other animals by shouting to stay away from his river otherwise he would eat them! The animals needed to cross the river and didn't know what to do! One day the crocodile becomes poorly and needs help and the smallest of the animals has an idea!

Biblical quote today reflecting on the story.
