Week 5
This week we are looking at three courageous women. Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg and Esther from the Old Testament.
On Monday we looked at Malala Yousafzai. All the children were shocked at her story and talked about her courage. Class 1 made a great link between her and Martin Luther King and Class 2 talked about how she never gave up and fights for others.
On Tuesday we looked at Greta Thunberg and how she courageously fights for the environment. We discussed how she is courageous as she carries on her fight even though people are horrible to her and call her names. She never gives up.
On Wednesday we thought about what Malala and Greta have taught us and what they are teaching the world. There were some excellent discussions around this. Here are some things that were said.
"They are teaching the world to be kind to each other"
"They are teaching individual liberty and how to be courageous"
"They've taught me confidence and to stick up for people you don't know"
"Never give up and keep going no matter what others say"
On Thursday we looked at the story of Esther from the Bible and thought about why this story might have been chosen this week. The children made links between the three courageous women.
Queen Esther stands as one of the great figures of courage and faith in the Old Testament. Her people, the Israelites, were living in Babylon. Some evil people were hoping to kill the Jews and were plotting against them. Esther approached the king and was able to save her people.
