Week 4

Monday 4th October

In collective worship today we heard the story of Moses and the Burning Bush. We learnt how Moses was called by God to set his people free from slavery in Egypt. Moses felt afraid and wondered why he had been asked to carry out this duty.  God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” He told Moses he would guide him and help his people out of Egypt.

Exodus 3.1

We talked about being afraid and that everyone feels fear at some point in their lives. Christians believe God will guide them through difficult times and give them courage.

Tuesday 5th October 2021 Luke 1:26

Today we looked at when the Angel Gabriel visited Mary.

The angel told her,

“Don’t be afraid, Mary. You have found favor [a] with God.
You will become pregnant, give birth to a son,
and name him Jesus.
He will be a great man
and will be called the Son of the Most High.
The Lord God will give him
the throne of his ancestor David.
Your son will be king of Jacob’s people forever,
and his kingdom will never end.”

Mary asked the angel, “How can this be? I’m a virgin.”

The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come to you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy child developing inside you will be called the Son of God.

We watched a short clip from Superbook and discussed how Mary was calmed and not to be afraid as the holy spirit would visit her.
